Bright Margin began in 2021 when founder Eleanor Price noticed that useful public conversations were being squeezed between breaking news and promotional content. She invited a small group of writers to investigate ordinary systems: how a street cools, why a library welcomes someone, or what happens when a product breaks. The project started around a kitchen table with borrowed laptops and an insistence that curiosity should remain practical.
Our mission is to make complicated subjects clear without flattening their human texture. We publish reported essays about science, culture, technology, travel and shared life. Our goal is not to tell readers what to think. It is to give them better observations, honest context and a few questions worth carrying into the week.
What we aim to do
- Connect evidence with lived experience.
- Make specialist language understandable.
- Highlight constructive experiments, including their failures.
- Support independent writers and careful editing.
The team
Eleanor Price is founder and editorial director. Theo Grant, managing editor, works on cities, transport and public design. Mara Ellison reports on ecology, repair and community projects. Jun Park is our visual editor, building the calm, slightly unexpected layouts you see here. A network of twelve contributors adds local knowledge.
By the numbers
Since launch, we have published 214 essays, worked with 68 independent contributors and recorded readers in 41 countries. More than 70% of our stories begin with a reader question. We have also corrected 19 published details in public, because accuracy is a practice rather than a badge. The team remains small by design: fewer stories, more attention, and enough room for a writer to say, “I am not sure yet.”
